Map the world with us
Google Maps provides you with a range of features that you can use to map the world around you. You can create a map to share with friends that highlights a particular route or place, correct an error that you see in Google Maps, or add map features to certain regions and become a citizen cartographer. Read about these different features below, and then check out our different help resources to get started.
Use My Maps to create personalized, annotated maps that you can share with others.
My Maps lets you use placemarks, lines, shapes as well as text and photos to create a customized map that you can share with family and friends. Use My Maps to:
- Show friends exactly how to find their way to a party or event.
- Plan a biking or running trail.
- Create an awesome vacation scrapbook map, showing places you visited and photos from your trip.
- Give visitors recommendations for things to do and see in your neighborhood.
You can choose to keep your creations private, share them with specific people, or make them public and searchable on Google Maps. You can also embed your map on your website. You can even collaborate with others on a single map, and search for maps made by specific users.
Watch this video tutorial about using MyMaps, or visit the Local Business Center User Guide to learn more.
Use community edits to help us make points of interest on Google Maps more accurate.
Community edits allow you to modify the points of interest you see on Google Maps to make it more accurate for everyone. Unlike My Maps, with which you can create and edit personalized maps that you can choose to keep private, community edits let you make changes to points of interest that can be viewed by all users of Google Maps.
With community edits, you can:
- Remove a business listing on Google Maps that's closed down, is a duplicate of another listing, or contains private information.
- Add a point of interest that you think you're neighbors would want to find.
- Move the marker for a location if it's been positioned a little off.
- Edit details for a local business that you notice are incorrect.
- Flag a place as inappropriate if you think we should check it out.
For more information about using community editing features, check out this help center article.
